Pachypodium rosulatum v.gracilis
One of the best places to see this plant in habitat is in the Ishalo mountains of Madagascar. I have visited this location every time I have been to Madagascar and never fail to be impressed with the lovely plants that can be found here.
Some of the plants are growing quite high up on the cliff faces and can be difficult to access to be able to photograph but equally some are very accessible on the lower plateaus. The plants are usually characterised by a bulbous basal caudex with branches arising above the caudex, as can be seen in the habitat pictures
The flowers are a beautiful bright yellow and even fairly young plants in cultivation can easily flower, all in all this is a very nice plant to grace the succulent collection. As with all Pachypodiums in the collection they are growing in a pumice substrate and winter temperature in the glasshouse is kept at 16 to 18 degrees although this is not absolutely necessary but should not go below an minimum of 10 degrees. In the winter dormancy it is usual for leaves to drop.
Here is a picture of a Pachypodium rosulatum in the collection flowering in May and into June
