November 2017 and Beryl and myself are of to South Africa to meet up with Rikus vanVeldhuisen and Jaap Keizer for a three week plant hunting trip to take in South Africa and Namibia. Never been to Namibia so very excited to be seeing a whole lot of new plants. We set of on 7th November from Heathrow to Cape Town at 5-30 pm and arrived 8th November in Cape Town at 8-00 am local time. Headed of to Eurocar to pick up our hire car a brand new Toyota with 76 Km on the clock, I wondered how brand new it would be after travelling around South Africa and Namibia for 3 weeks!! We phoned Rikus who we knew was a day ahead of us to arrange a meeting point and then set of on our latest adventure.
Wenesday 8th November
After meeting up with Rikus and Jaap just before the town of Citrusdale we all carried on to the turn of for Algeria and soon found plants of Othonna arbuscula, Euphorbia loricata and Tylecodon paniculata. We carried on up to the N& to Clanwilliam and arrived for lunch at Nancys Tea Room, we had been in Nanncys 10 years ago and it was just as good. Food was great and if you are ever in Clanwilliam do try it. We left Clanwilliam and headed onto the road to Klaver running alongside the Olifants River where we came across Euphorbia tuberculata, Euphorbia hamata and lots more Tylecodon paniculata. We eventually reached Van Rhynsdorp where we booked into the Van Rhyn Guest House had a meal and then sorted ourselves out for the next day’s excursion.
