November 2007 and myself and Beryl are of to South Africa for 3 weeks holiday. This is not really a plant trip but I have been told that I am allowed some time to search out plant locations but we must also do the tourist sites as well. We arrived in Cape Town on 6th November and after collecting our hire car we set of for Stellanbosh to catch up with an old friend Jim Holmes who runs a nursery called Cape Bulb and Seed. We are staying with him overnight and the next day we planned to head for Kirstenbosh Botanical Garden.
Wednesday 7th November
Headed of to Kirstenbosh Botanical Garden. What a fantastic spot, the outside gardens and planting were spectacular and inside the glasshouse was a great assortment of wonderful succulents, we spent a good day looking at everything. Unfortunately Ernst van Jaarsveld the Curator of the collection was not available as I was looking forward to talking with him. Nevertheless it was a great experiance, do not miss it if you are in Cape Town.
