Not since the last trip to Madagascar in 2018 have I been able to undertake another plant hunting trip not least because of the Covid pandemic that put a lot of travel on hold.
Anyway after a discussion with Wiebe Bosma at E.L.K. in September 2022 it was decided that we would travel together to Tanzania in November. So with the plans made it was all to look forward to and I duly met Wiebe at Schipol on the 28th October and we travelled to Tanzania landing at Kilimanjaro Airport late that night where we were met by our driver Andrew who was to take us on our pre determined rout for the next 3 weeks. First stop was a nearby hotel for a nights rest and then it was up early next morning to get on our way after first changing some money for local currency.
Saturday 29th October
Drove into Arusha in order to change some money and to buy a sim card with internet capability and then it was on our way to look for plants. We basically did a circular trip on this first day travelling down to Mererani then coming back via Mbuguni and Karangai to arrive back in same hotel as we had for the first night.
We saw quite a few plants on the way but it was evident that it had not rained for a while and the country was very dry so the plants were not looking their best.
To Be Continued :-
